Home Improvements: Quick Fixes To Make Your Life Easier
Home care is not something you can cope overnight. Even if your place is new or freshly renovated there are still those pending tasks which need your undivided attention before they evolve into a household disaster. There are a few small fixes you can easily DIY and make your home better. So, let’s repair!
1. Doors Open Or Close All The Time
This is a pretty easy fix, unless your door is possessed by Poltergeist. Remove one of the hinge pins and lay it on a sturdy work surface. Take a hammer and hit the shaft’s centre. This will slightly bend it and provide enough firmness to prevent the door from opening and closing.
2. Squeaky Floors
There’s always a possibility for a creepy creak when you step on a loose floorboard. A temporary fix is to sprinkle a little talcum powder between the squeaky boards. As it reduces the friction between the two surfaces it will eliminate the unpleasant sounds, at least for a few months.
3. Cupboard Fixes
If one of the cupboard doors can’t stay shut, it is very likely the roller latch is worn out. You can easily remove the old one and install a new magnetic door latch.
4. Get Rid Of Scratches
If you can’t hide the scratches on your furniture or flooring, you have three options. The first one is to use a Minwax Wood Finish Stain Marker. It is specially designed to cover scaring on wooden surfaces. The second hack you can easily pull of is rubbing a walnut nut on the surface. It’s natural, soft, oily texture will hide the scraped spots. If you have neither of these at hand a common marker will do the trick. But this goes only for very dark flooring nuances. It’s ink will stain the lighter-tinted scratch.
5. Dripping Cistern
If you don’t know where the leak’s coming from, don’t panic. Bob’s Handyman Services’ certified and experienced plumbers revealed a hack which will let you see the leak easier. Sip red or blue food dye in it and wait until the blue drops start dripping. One solution to the problem is caulking the crack, unless it is in an inaccessible place.
Still see puddles around your toilet base? If a cistern crack is not to blame, visually inspect the supply line and fittings. Your water supply line connectors may need an extra turn, so hand-tighten them enough to stop the water leak. But when the supply lines are cracked, your best option is to turn the water off from the shut off valve and call a reliable plumber to replace them with new ones of the same size.
6. Shifting Outlets
This is a common problem for almost every household and it is easily fixable. The problem occurs when the power outlets are not pressed tightly by the electrical box and the outlet’s cover. You can cope with the problem by using plastic outlet spacers which will flatten the wall and outlet levels.
7. Basement Lights
Did you forget the light in the basement on again? There’s a simple solution to this and it’s called in-socket motion detector.
8. Cracked Grouting
One of the reasons for cracked grouting is it never managed to seal up which lets water splashes break it down. Scrape the old grout layer and replace it with a new one. If you wish to save yourself the time for sealing afterwards, choose a grouting materials which contain urethane.
